Successfully completed implementation phase
The implementation phase of construction works along with supervising activities under floods rehabilitation support for Serbia, related to Flood protection system in Mačva, have been successfully completed during second half of 2020. The project started in June 2018 and is compiled from several portions:
- Construction Works on Lot 1 – East zone section 1 – Drenovac – Čevrntija,
- Construction Works on Lot 2 – West zone section 2 - Banov Brod – Salaš Crnobarski and Badovinci and
- Supervision services for both Lots.
The upgraded embankments which are up to 1.2m higher, along with new sections will provide a safer barrier against floods in total length of more than 26 kms. Also, reconstruction of service roads along the embankments and access ramps as well as reconstruction of gravity and pressure pipelines have been completed. These works will protect the citizens of the surrounding areas from floods even larger than 100-year probability level of floods.
The overall cost for all works and services are estimated not to exceed 10 million euro value including activities during the defect liability period.
The contracts were executed professionally, while all works and services have been completed in good cooperation between all parties involved, during all phases. The beneficiary, PWMC Srbijavode will take over the works in the coming weeks, however, the project has an embedded 1 year defect liability period that as a contractual obligation acts as a warranty of the quality of the works.
Floods from 2014 serve as a reminder that these kind of events represent serious natural hazard that deserves special attention through flood risk management and measures. The completion of this project is a great achievement that provides a more secure and safe environment for the citizens of the region.
